NE Minneapolis Art-a-Whirl 2023

My first North East Minneapolis Art-a-Whirl as an artist is in the books. Is it too much to call it a 'whirlwind?' It was a thrilling experience to be able to make things and showcase my work alongside some of the incredible talents in the Twin Cities. I have gone every year that I could and have spent ALL my money at the incredible event; it was so exciting to be a part of it.

Why did I decide to participate in NE Minneapolis Art-a-Whirl?

Well, I woke up on my birthday - a month prior and decided I just needed to give it 'a whirl,' - see what I did there. I have accumulated a ton of painting during the past few years and truthfully I needed to make room and space for new art and the ability to purchase new art supplies.

What I have learned from participating in Art-a-whirl?

  1. I should have done it much earlier than this year, I just finally had the courage to do it.

  2. It is a heck of a lot of work to do. I have so much more respect for those that do this on the regular, it is a ton of work. Showing up is one thing, but showing up and looking professional and polished is another. I really tried my best to make my booth look and feel how I wanted it to feel. It was a ton of preparation and stress, but ultimately it was a work of art and love all by itself.

  3. Not every person is going to be your biggest fan, but when you find someone who genuinely loves what you make, it feels amazing. Some of my biggest fans were kids, and in all honestly - it is the biggest compliment I could have ever been given. They are the harshest critics and will tell you the absolute truth without batting an eye.

I am tired, but can honestly say the entire experience was super rewarding and I am looking forward to participating next year. Thanks to all who came by to wish me well and purchase art, it warms my heart to have such a supportive network!
